ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
The BINUS Student Learning Community (BSLC) is a student organization at BINUS University that focuses on fostering academic excellence and personal development in the field of reasoning. Since its establishment in 2008, BSLC has grown to become a trusted learning partner for BINUS students, creating a fun and engaging learning environment. One of its flagship programs is mentoring, which provides peer-to-peer academic support.
As a learning community, BSLC plays a vital role in improving both the soft skills and hard skills of its members, especially in three core areas: Academic, Employability, and Organizational skills. These initiatives aim to prepare students for academic success and professional growth while building a strong sense of community.
I was appointed as a Student Organization Advisor (SOA) of BSLC by the Rector of BINUS University since 10 March 2023, a role I continue to hold to this day.

Reviewing and Approving SPPA (Standard Operating Procedures and Regulations)
- I am responsible for reviewing and giving approval for SPPA (Standard Operating Procedures and Regulations) related to the Student Organization.
- My role here includes ensuring that all procedures and regulations are clearly defined, practical, and compliant with university standards, providing feedback to refine policies and optimize organizational operations, facilitating a transparent decision-making process that benefits the students and aligns with institutional values.
Providing Advice and Guidance
- I offer strategic and practical advice to the organization, addressing challenges, exploring opportunities, and guiding them toward achieving their objectives.
- My advice can be:
- Requested: When the organization seeks input on specific issues, initiatives, or decisions.

Challenges
Being a Student Organization Advisor (SOA) for the BINUS Student Learning Community (BSLC) comes with its own set of challenges. These challenges stem from balancing the organization’s goals, the diverse needs of students, and the broader expectations of BINUS University. Here are some of the key challenges:
Managing Diverse Needs and Expectations
- Balancing Member Expectations: BSLC involves various roles (Nindya, mentors, mentees), each with different needs and expectations. Ensuring that everyone feels supported and valued can be complex.
- Catering to Diverse Academic Disciplines: Since BSLC serves students from various majors, it can be challenging to ensure that mentoring sessions are equally effective across disciplines.
- University Expectations: As an SOA, there’s a need to align BSLC’s activities with BINUS University’s strategic goals and institutional guidelines while still maintaining the organization’s core values.
Sustaining Member Engagement
- Maintaining Motivation: Keeping Nindya, mentors, and mentees motivated and engaged over time can be challenging, especially when members face academic or personal pressures.
- Participation Challenges: Encouraging mentees, especially first- and second-semester students, to actively participate in mentoring sessions and other activities can sometimes require additional effort.
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Long-Term Planning: Formulating a roadmap and milestones up to 2030 requires foresight, adaptability, and continuous alignment with the evolving needs of the organization and university.
- Resource Allocation: Ensuring sufficient resources (time, funding, and human capital) to implement programs and achieve long-term goals can be a hurdle.
Solutions
By addressing these challenges with a proactive and strategic approach, an SOA can ensure that BSLC continues to thrive and make a positive impact on its members and the BINUS community. These strategies included:
Building Strong Relationships
- Establishing trust and open communication with all members to ensure a supportive environment.
Empowering Members
- Encouraging Nindya and mentors to take ownership of their roles and fostering a culture of responsibility and accountability.
Continuous Improvement
- Regularly reviewing programs, collecting feedback, and making iterative changes to enhance impact.
Leveraging University Support
- Collaborating with BINUS University’s resources, such as faculty and administration, to overcome resource and planning challenges.
